How to Learn the Golden Rules of Dressing...

While dressing up there are a number of things that need to be kept in mind in order to avoid being overdressed, or worse, being underdressed. All of these pointers are based on solely one purpose; that what you wear and how you wear it speaks volumes for your personality and your outlook. So next time you are thinking of investing a few thousands into your wardrobe, first take a look at some of these pointers to spare yourself the embarrassment of putting up a wrong dress for yourself.
The Greek philosopher Epictetus once said that ‘know first who you are and then adorn yourself accordingly.’ This, therefore, becomes the first rule of dressing. Know your body type. Know what suits you and what not. Don’t just follow the fad and invest in whatever the world is wearing; see what will suit your body type and then adorn it. True style is definitely about not letting the clothes wear you but about you wearing and walking and talking the clothes.
Wearing the right outfit at the right time is as essential as being in the right place at the right time. Make sure that you dress according to the time of the day, season or occasion. If you are in for a hot summer day out for some chores, then lawn or cotton should be the preferable choice of garment. If it’s a formal function that you have to attend but during the summers, chiffon is a safer option. If you are having a night out during winters then linen or khaddar is the safest option. Therefore, explore your avenues. Know your garments.
Other than being appropriate in your choice of garment, you have to be considerate about your choice of color too. Not every color is made for every skin tone. If you have a fair complexion, then medium tones of green and blue are good for you. If the complexion is dark, it can further be enhanced by pastel colors such as aqua, pink or light yellow. Young girls should experiment with their looks to the extent and should adorn bright colors. On the other hand, slightly older ladies should choose the color according to their age and settle for darker shades of maroon or brown.
The most important aspect, however, of dressing up is being comfortable in your own skin. You need to be composed and confident with the dress that you are wearing. With the unpredictable weather that Pakistan ha every other day, what with scorching heat during the summers and moderate cold during the winters, cotton is the safest option for the fabric of a dress.
Following the fashion is not a crime. But you need to make sure that you are not overdoing it by revealing too much or showing what should not be shown. People tend to get carried away while following the latest fads and don’t consider the fact that something should be left to the imagination too. Therefore, be fashionable, but don’t overdo it. Wear less revealing garments instead of wearing plunging necklines and revealing hemlines.
Last but not least, it all comes down to elegance. The fact to be remembered is that elegance is a state of the mind. No dress can make you feel royal or elegant unless you yourself are not confident about it. So find a killer hairstyle to go with your dress, accessorize accordingly and you are all set to flaunt.
